Baumit, European manufacturer to SATE facade solutions, presented the Baumit Life Challenge Award of the European facade. The event took place in the beautiful hall of the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna. A jury of 15 prominent architects, including the Spanish architect Enrique Alvarez Sala-Walther, was deliberated in the final vote the winners of the 5 categories: single family house, multifamily housing, nonresidential building, thermal rehabilitation and historic rehabilitation.

The jury unanimously chose the “Vallecas 47” an architectural project of the Untercio Studio, that awarded the Top Award from all categories, the Baumit Life Challenge Award. But before that happened, another Spanish project “Casa Greyhound” the architecture studio Canals Moneo, had been carried the best award in their category.

“Life Challenge66 is the most obvious proof that with imagination and professional skills can be designed unique and expressive facades at a reasonable price,” said Robert Schmid, CEO of Baumit International and promoter of this first European competition in his opening speech. He said that Baumit International had joined with enthusiasm to the contest, because was expected a significant potential.

Hubert Mattersdorfer, director of w & p Baustoffe, the Baumit group said that he was impressed with the creativity of Spanish architecture. For his part, Fernando Arrabé, architect and director of Baumit Spain, has shown the conviction that “the Spanish architecture adapts successfully building system widely used in Central Europe, giving an example of creativity, beauty and quality in the built outcome”.

Baumit subsidiaries of the manufacturer, located in 29 countries, presented singular works whose execution had taken place between 2012 and 2013. The projects at their 5 categories, were given until the end of February this year. Through an online vote, the jury assessed using a point system the projects of which 30 from 13 countries entered into the final. Why Life Challenge66? Around 66 percent of the surface of a facade can be designed with SATE of Baumit products and systems. And precisely this 66 percent is required wit: texture, color and combination with other materials and construction elements create a unique facade.
