The company has participated in the renovation of ‘La Quinta Inn & Suits’, a hotel located in Texas that has been taken by a new generation which wanted to renew its design.
This is a very important project that has involved de participation of the interior design studio ‘5G Studio’ and the architecture firm ‘Mayse & Associates’. The first has designed the new prototype named ‘El Sol’ with bright colours for the exterior and unique shapes and textures. After this, the project added the collaboration of ‘Mayse & Associates’ which played a key role in the selection of the material that has given life to the new concept of the hotel.
NEOLITH, THE BEST MATERIAL
For this project, the architects needed solutions which do not sacrifice fundamental elements of the original design. The architecture firm chose ceramic tiles as a leading material but the saw that they weren’t able to reproduce de exact colour. It is for that reason that finally the leader provider of products of natural stone, Holland Marble, proposed the use of a Sintered Compact Surface. Finally and after different studies, the design team and the construction crew decided that Neolith was the perfect material for this project.
Roger Sotelo, architect of ‘Mayse & Associates’ highlights that «All the crew responded since de begining to all of our concerns. Both Neolith and Holland Marble were exceptional during its collaboration and execution of the design concept».
From ‘Renovation Today’ we talk about the last project developed by Fran Silvestre Architects and in which every detail is taken care of. In this case the project is the Aluminium Houe, a single-family home which counts with a constructed suface of 958 m2 of a total of 1770 m2.
Located in Madrid, this house is surrounded by a garden with big trees and incorporates a big swimming pool. An horizontal piece with a metal nature that creates the effect of count with a single floor and which constrast in a perfect way with the trees that we have mentioned before.
Moreover, this house has a day zone, understood as a base emerging from the same natural stone which paves part of the plot. Talking about the night zone, this is located over the day zone, incorporating views to the north and south and with shaded terraces in which to enjoy the exterior. Other items that we can highlight in this house are the stairs and the interior centered atrium which distribute the rooms, establishing a functional hierarchy in which all spaces open up to the garden.
On the other hand, this is a house which highlights for its minimalism and for the black and white that are the dominant colours. A project with big dimensions that has required the participation of a large group of professionals y that has incorporated all kind of details as, for example, radiant floor.
So, this is a house perfect to enjoy all the year.

The eminent designer Werner Aisslinger has joined the team of designers working with the B.Lux lighting company, which has just begun manufacturing the Tree Series collection, designed by Aisslinger. In addition to Tree Series, B.lux will make and sell a new collection of lamps designed by Aisslinger, on which the German designer is currently working and which will also bear the unmistakeable hallmarks of his design: the lamps will be manufactured using the latest technology and will boast organic forms and shapes.
Encompassing suspension, table and floor lamps, the major appeal of Tree Series can be found in the organic form of its impressive shade, made from a single piece of aluminium which is cast in an irregular manner creating a sensation of great lightness. This morphology allows Tree Series to cast asymmetrical lights.
Tree Series was chosen by the US design magazine Interior Design as a candidate for one of its Best of the Year 2012 awards.
The Tree Series collection by Werner Aisslinger belongs to the DECO collection of B.lux. It is the first collaboration between B.Lux and the German designer
Cersaie 2014 is presenting these days some of the most amazing novelities in the world of ceramics and bathroom. In this regard about 90 Spanish manufacturers of ceramic floor tiles and exposed at Cersaie their new collections inspired by the latest trends in decoration and interior.
So, it is noted that through the application of new technologies, the Spanish ceramic reinvents itself every season and is able to create a unique style, with details that make each tile something personal and unique details that can be seen these days in the prestigious Hall of Ceramic Tile and Bathroom facilities Bologna.
THE INSPIRATION
The collections of Spanish ceramic manufacturers explore lines that reach all parts of the house, both indoors and outdoors. The designers of different brands found inspiration. The love of classical pieces not lose strength, rather grows, like patchwork ceramic compositions, increasingly sophisticated. They get degraded ceramic must be one of the next year. Ceramic formats have long added to the square and rectangle, hexagon pieces. We must not lose sight of them because they give a lot of play. Reliefs, winning in creativity in the placement process are maintained. And, to top it, some parts very, very bright.
THE STYLES
So, to keep up on walls and ceramic flooring from Ascer comes an interesting summary of some the styles ‘trendies’ we are already seeing in the reforms and interior design projects around the world love the style statement ‘vintage’ with a return to the classic formats, the ceramic mixture in search for new solutions, gradients, subtle reliefs, the predominance of hexagons in many proposals and even ceramic tiles with mirror, etc.
RAFAEL MONEO
In addition, another key aspect of this event is the presence of the architect Rafael Moneo, (September 25, at 11.00 in the Europauditorium). The Spanish architect, Pritzker Prize 1996, is the third world famous architect invited to give a lecture at Cersaie. The previous two were Kazuyo Sejima (Pritzker Prize 2010) and Eduardo Souto De Moura (Pritzker 2011).
Moreover, the meetings with internationally renowned architects also provides appointments with young designers such as French designer Ora-Ito and Scandinavian Andreas G. Gjertsen and Yashar Hanstad, the Studio TYIN Tegnestue with masters of design, Riccardo Dalisi and-winning architects Antón García-Abril and Ensamble studio, as well as a tribute to the architect Paolo Soleri Acrosanti creator, who died recently. In addition, the event will also feature the architects Carla Juaçaba, Izaskun Chinchilla and Sarah Robinson, professionals with very different backgrounds, who will participate in a discussion moderated by American architect Michael P. Johnson, among many others._

An excepcional piece
It is an exceptional piece for ventilated facade that does not require any cutting or drilling to be fixed to the metallic structure. Its design with the self-ventilated double wall and the longitudinal grooves makes it compatible with any anchoring system on the market. Thus any weakening is avoided that other tiles, which require cuts or holes for fixation, are suffering.
It also offers an attractive alternative to ensure quick and easy installation in the traditional cladding system. A solution compatible with any fixing element on the market.
The process can be carried out with resins or using mechanical fasteners to secure adherence.
The collection is available in various sizes and colors in different finishes including now the new pieces with relief. Greco Gres has a design department that can customize tiles tailored to each client.
The Frontek top is a solution particularly suitable for structures that jut out of the plane of the facade, using exclusive extruded ceramic pieces adapted to each project._
As with every year, the eight firms of Porcelanosa Group prepare to participate in Cersaie.
At this latest edition of the show, Porcelanosa Group will use a larger display area to present its new covering products, as well as its latest kitchen and bathroom fittings. On this occasion, the display area will extend to over 600 square metres, with an additional 200 square metre area where visitors can more comfortably discover the products by the Group’s firms, like the new ceramic parquet and simulated hydraulic Porcelanosa tiles.
With a striking zig-zag design, the stand will have a Krion® ventilated facade, perfectly representing the technical qualities and versatility of this new generation compact mineral developed by Porcelanosa Group. The ceramic materials of Porcelanosa and Venis, and the XLight collection by Urbatek will also feature prominently in the space’s surroundings.
Additionally, L’Antic Colonial has collaborated with Ramón Esteve for this edition of the trade fair, putting him in charge of designing a space where his new bathroom accessories and the natural materials of the firm are featured. Furthermore, as in previous years, Butech will have an exclusive stand in the area dedicated to the materials and specific tools for the installation and display of ceramic products, which can be visited in Area 45 Stand 41._
Grespania Technical Solutions position Grespania in today’s demanding architecture sector. We have created an independent section of solutions specifically dedicated to our most unique products, their technical qualities, and architectural applications. The working philosophy that defines Grespania Technical Solutions can be summed up by two key factors: sustainability and innovation.
H&CTILES
H&C Tiles is the ceramic application using Hydrotect® technology, in which a titanium dioxide coating reduces pollution and provides ceramics with self-cleaning, antibacterial and odour removal properties.
The exposure of titanium dioxide to ultraviolet radiation produces a photo-catalytic reaction that generates active oxygen and breaks down dirt into smaller and less adhesive particles. Due to the hydrophilic properties of H&C Tiles , water spreads over the surface uniformly, thereby facilitating drag and the removal of dirt particles. The applied product becomes an integral part of the same ceramic material, providing a lasting effect over time that is self-regenerating, all without.
Porcelain 20mm thick for exteriors
The new porcelain stoneware from Grespania reproduces a selection of architectural materials such as concrete and stone with a thickness of 20 mm. Along with the excellent technical qualities of the porcelain, the 20 mm thickness gives a higher breaking strength and a natural look that makes this high quality series suitable for all types of external applications. Ideal for outdoor areas, both private and public, which require high levels of technical and mechanical work. Its high breaking strength makes this an ideal material for exterior raised paving, facilitating drainage in case of rain and easing access to wiring, pipes or other utilities. Its increased thickness and weight make the material suitable for laying outdoors without the use of bonding materials. It can simply be layed directly and remain secure without moving on grass, gravel or sand beds. As no use of bonding materials is required, it can be fixed quickly, and also easily moved to a new position to be reused in other areas.
COVERLAM 3.5 / 5.6 mm
Pushing the limits of size and thickness imposed by ceramics is now possible. Coverlam, the new surface for architecture. Grespania completes the Coverlam range with a new 5.6 mm thickness with a polished finish, which is a highly decorative option and ideal for unlimited applications. Coverlam can be complemented with paving of conventional thickness to give more versatility to all types of projects.
NEXO PORCELAIN TILES– FULL BODY
The Nexo Series is a full body technical porcelain range in which texture and versatility take centre stage. The Nexo Series’ attributes mean it can adapt perfectly to all kinds of architectural projects ranging from public spaces to residential projects thanks to its’ three finishes, six colours, multiformat concept and wide range of decors._

INTERMATEX GROUP (INTERVIEW) 2
Intermatex Group goes to Cersaie with an interesting double proposal. Company introduces, one way, new ranges, and, on the other side, all novelties the Group includes within the new brand Essentia.
This way, those who will attend the Italian show will be able to enjoy of: ‘Dolphin’, a new mosaic concept that brings a bit of fresh air for the most popular and extend chip size; ‘Mojave’, similar to the successful ‘quartz’ but in a more natural and muretto looking, and finally, Florida’, a way to deepen in the interlocking concept, in a chip size that the company has a limited selection. These ranges are the result of the successful feedback company had in the Coverings 2014 show, and the adaptation to other markets they made after the show with more global combination of colours.
NEW ITEMS IN ESSENTIA
Company has selected raw materials used in the best ranges and has used them to develop a new splitface and no joints concept.
So, visitors like very much ‘Matrix’, design with real mother of pearl; ‘City’, modern and with quartzstone; ‘Cubik’, more natural looking and with bigger proportion of matt stone; and ‘Domino’.
With regards this last range it comes from a totally new idea with a very attractive combination of different colors of polished marbles.
Intermatex keeps on growing constantly, and as a last step of the expansion of the facilities (that were finished initially in 2013), they are working on a new loading area. It means bigger area that will improve management of warehouse and loadings.
A new Aldo Coppola showroom was inaugurated recently in the San Babila area in Milan. The showroom was designed by American interior designer, Anton Kobrinetz, who chose Matteo Ragni’s Rebelot vases to furnish the entrance. The result is a spectacular set of maxi vases that welcome the customers of the atelier.
The BigMat Group International Conference was hosted in Dublin, with the theme “Listening to Our Environment, the Key to Developing Our Business”.
The key points discussed at this Irish conference include meeting client requirements, appropriately interacting with clients, focus on and awareness of the market and the competition and, finally, strategically integrating digital tools at points-of-sale.
From 15 to 19 October 2014, the members of the BigMat Group and professionals from the construction materials distribution sector shared their experience through workshops and presentations organised by Jean-Jacques Gressier and Thierry Spencer, of Académie du Service.
The highlights included a study of BigMat members’ clients on a European scale, enabling them to focus on their priorities and their implementation in the differentBigMat country markets.
In the presentation entitled “What can we learn from our competitors?”, Jean-Jacques Gressier developed ten best practices regarding competition. They include tips to encourage members to better showcase their points-of-sale.
Thierry Spencer’s speech on “What can we learn from other businesses?” focused on the importance of strong concepts at large brands’ points-of-sale in marketing terms; this focus is part of the Group’s DNA.
Presentations by specialists, particularly Google representative Emmanuel Dollé, on “Comparing, preparing online purchases and visits”, were closely followed by participants in view of their importance. There were multiple opinions on the digital world and the practically inevitable use of Internet tools; the ensuing debate was open and interactive.
A country-by-country focus clearly identified the group’s ongoing strategic development.
Dublin was a great opportunity for everyone to speak their mind and make their own contributions, particularly during two round tables entitled:
Regarding the Brand’s development, one important moment was the welcoming of Slovakia to the group and its presentation to the assembly.
The conference ended with the presentation and launch of the second edition of the BigMat International Architecture Award 2015. The Awards will be presented at our next gathering in November 2015 in Berlin.
Finally, Claude Coutant, President of BigMat International, reminded us that the conference is important for the federation and union of the group, and stressed that: “We are convinced that we must make timely moves in the right direction in order to remain competitive. We must also be curious, be interested in our clients, our suppliers, our competitors, our collaborators, so that we may be the best. And, finally, always remember that we do not only sell materials, what we sell are solutions!”

Over 150 journalists were on hand at the press conference to announce the next MADE expo show, which is scheduled to take place at the Milan Fairgrounds Rho from 18 to 21 March 2015.
In attendance at the press conference were the Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, the Chairman of the General Confederation of Italian Industry (Confindustria), Giorgio Squinzi, the Chairman of Assimpredil Ance (an association that represents construction companies in and around Milan), Claudio De Albertis, and the Italian Government’s Commissioner for Expo 2015, Giuseppe Sala.
Following the success of the 2013 edition (which attracted over 211,000 visitors, including 36,000 from countries other than Italy, up 14% compared to 2012), MADE expo is still looking towards innovation as a driver of its success, along with its biennial schedule, specialization and international reach.
A trade fair that is instrumental in implementing Italy’s industrial policy and boosting growth.
«MADE expo is one of the events in which we intend to invest additional resources”, announced Carlo Calenda.“Our ministry is striving to encourage greater interaction between Italian enterprises and foreign investors, and in this respect MADE expo represents a primary dialogue partner because it combines a supply chain approach with an internationally high-profile event.
With the «Building the Expo» exhibit, MADE expo will also be providing a preview of Expo2015: trade show visitors will have a unique opportunity to see the pavilions, technologies and materials used in the universal exposition expected to bring over 30 million visitors to Milan. “This is a major thrust, since 96% of the companies working for Expo are Italian,” said Giuseppe Sala.
MADE expo includes four specialized exhibitions: Construction and materials, Building envelope and windows, Interiors and finishings and Software, technologies and services.
“Mapei is one of the founders of MADE expo and we will continue strenuously supporting the event’s ability to attract foreign investors,” added Giorgio Squinzi.
The Chairman of FederlegnoArredo, Roberto Snaidero, emphasized MADE expo’s growing international reach, as epitomized by its participation in the Saloni World Wide Moscow furniture show taking place in Moscow from 15 to 18 October 2014.
Fir Italia confirms its presence at ISH, one of the most important fairs at international level. In these days of march the company is meeting private people, distributors, retailers, architects, designers, engineers, installers, journalists from around the world to show them important new products.
Fir Italia updates its offer regarding the shower space by giving a preview, at ISH, of a broad multifunctional «shower» programme full of news. A wide range of items to choose from in order to customize and transform your own shower into an emotional journey through the senses, among water strokes and beneficial influences of colour through the light so that you can find the ideal well-being every day.
The great innovation introduced by this programme for the shower area consists of four models of multifunctional shower heads (two featured by an organic design as concerns Synergy collections, two with a square shape concerning Playone collections), aimed to built-in ceiling-mounted installation, working by a solenoid valve and not requiring an ad hoc system with more pipes but simply a traditional one with only one pipe. The shower heads are equipped with waterproof remote control enabling you not only to manage the chromotherapy system but also the transition from one of the three available jet types to the other one:
– “rain”, like a tropical rain, releases vigorous water droplets, which give you a pleasant energizing and revitalizing feeling.
– “nebulisator” is a relaxing cloud of water droplets which offers a heady feeling by caressing and refreshing the skin.
– “cascade” combines the emotion of a refreshing waterfall to a relaxing hydro massage, ideal for the cervical area.
The management of water jets by remote control offers an advantage not only in terms of functionality but also in terms of installation of the article. As a matter of fact it is not necessary to provide a system with three pipes when using this type of shower heads, as for most of the other multifunctional shower heads, one for each function of the water jet but you only need a single pipe since the deviation occurs inside the shower head thanks to the mechanism of the solenoid valve.
An important advantage, which makes these models easy to install and ideal not only in new buildings, but also in contexts of restructuring, where you want to replace an old one jet shower head with a three jet shower head belonging to the new generation, with also the «chromotherapy». It is enough the presence of a common shower mixer, even preexisting, with a single outlet and a flow rate of 15 L/m.
In addition to these multifunctional shower heads working by a solenoid valve, four multifunctional models (two for the collections Synergy and two for the Playone) are also available, always for built-in ceiling-mounted installation but in a traditional typology: in this case the system to be foreseen is a three-pipe one and the transition from a water jet to another is «mechanical», thus requiring a built-in three-way shower mixer with diverter.
The programme is completed by different items of shower complements: from body jet with rain and nebulisator functions to the multifunctional hand showers and to the wall-mounted water spouts with cascade jet. A wide range of shower products to design customized wellness paths both in public areas and even in your own bathroom at home.

The shower heads are equipped with a waterproof remote control enabling you to manage not only the chromotherapy system but also the transition from one of the three types of jets available to the other one: rain «rain», nebulized «nebulisator» and waterfall «cascade».
